1. In the short story, Matt is walking home with Laura when she invites him to go on a ride with her. Matt is hesitant, as he doesn’t want to move too quickly. He knows that if he goes on the ride, it will be perceived as him being aggressive and he doesn’t want to make Laura uncomfortable, so he declines. However, Laura persists and eventually Matt agrees, but he insists on taking her home first.
2. The lesson Matt learned is that it’s important to be assertive and to take charge of situations instead of being aggressive.
3. Being aggressive is when someone is forceful or overly pushy in trying to get what they want, while being assertive is when someone is confident and firm in their decisions.
4. The answer can be found in the fourth paragraph when Matt is thinking about how to handle the situation. He realizes that he needs to be assertive and take charge, which he does by agreeing to go on the ride but insisting on taking her home first.
5. “Wandered” in the second paragraph means to move around aimlessly. This can be seen when Matt and Laura were walking and talking, not really going anywhere in particular.
6. Matt might have felt relieved if he had agreed to go on the ride with Laura because it would have shown her that he was being assertive and taking charge of the situation.
