This method is used by geologists and seismologists called the triangulation method to determine the location of the epicenter. For the triangulation method to work we need three locations along with their hypothetical distance from the epicenter.

You will need:

1. A compass
2. A pencil
3. Different colored pens
4. A copy of the map

Steps in doing the triangulation method:

1. From the map find the location labeled Carmona.
2. this is where you will put the needle of your compass.
3. Draw at least three circles of increasing size. A pencil would do but I recommend using a different colored pen for each location.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 for the location Silang and GMA.

Note: Since there is no numbered scale provided, we will draw different sizes of circles but regarding the measurement of the circles, Silang and GMA’s circles must be roughly the same size and Carmona must have the biggest circle of them all. This is because of the distance provided from the epicenter.

When you’re done drawing the circles, there should be a point in the circles where all three different circles centered in three different locations would intersect. The point where they intersect is the epicenter of the earthquake.
