The resistance gets less and less as appliances are added. At some point the total current drawn reaches its limit and fuse or breaker pops.
In our first apartment we had fuses. 2 lines of 15Amp each. I placed a sign about using on appliance alone. Shut it off before using another. I asked Homeowner about a separate line in Kitchen. Told me its OK as long as a Electrician does it.
Found out my apartment used KNOB and TUBE wiring without any grounds. Thats ceramic insulators with open wires from beam to beam. Very old! Doing a change was not going to happen. Required new service and wiring. My guess house was 1900 vinatge
