It resulted in the concentration of power in the hands of then-President Ferdinand Marcos, who established authoritarian rule and suspended the writ of habeas corpus, leading to widespread human rights abuses, political repression, and censorship of the media. Opposition figures were jailed or forced into exile, and political parties were banned, leaving Marcos and his allies in control of the government.

The implementation of martial law had a significant impact on the economy and livelihood of Filipinos. The government’s control over the economy led to a period of economic growth, but this was achieved at the expense of the majority of the population. Prices of basic goods skyrocketed, leading to inflation and a decline in the standard of living for many Filipinos. The agricultural sector, which was a significant source of livelihood for many Filipinos, was also adversely affected by the government’s policies.
